By March 28, 2006No Comments

On April 12, YKASEC and a coalition of various New York City immigrant organizations including New York Immigration Coalition, Human Rights Activist Project/Global Kids, Latin American Integration Center/Youth Empowerment Activists, Alianza Dominicana, SEIU 32BJ, Catholic Charities, and Mexican American Student Association sponsored and held a rally for the DREAM Act and immigrant youth rights. The DREAM Act is a federal legislation that will grant certain undocumented students permanent residency. This rally was one of over 50 rallies in over 30 states that showed support for the DREAM Act during the National Day of Action. The rally included live music, spoken word poetry, and African drumming. YKASEC’s cultural troupe, the BINARI performed poongmul (traditional Korean drum) pieces to the delight of many of the participants, who danced and sang in addition to holding up signs and voicing support for the DREAM Act.
