Annandale, VA – Bowing from public pressure from Asian Americans in Virginia, Del. Nick Freitas has quietly pulled offensive face masks that identify COVID-19 with China from his election website. When given the opportunity to respond last week to a public calling out from Asian Americans in his district and across Virginia, his campaign manager pounced on us. Let this be a message to all candidates – present and future – that Asian Americans will not be quiet about xenophobia and racism. We want candidates who treat all their constituents with respect and will work for a Virginia that works for all of us. We want healthcare for all, a path to citizenship, and protections for people to stay in their homes.
