NAKASEC participated in a rally to protest President Bush’s economic and civil rights policies that have hurt working families and immigrants. NAKASEC executive director spoke at the rally about the erosion of immigrant rights, exacerbating racial discrimination, and policies such as secret arrest and long detention that threaten human rights.

The rally was timed to coincide with President Bush’s visit to New York City for his re-election campaign fundraiser, and was held in front of the Hotel where the fundraising event was taking place. Thousands of protesters and dozens of civil rights groups and organizations attended several rallies along the Avenue in front of the Hotel. The protesters symbolically presented for the media, a jumbo-sized “REALITY CHECK” of failing economy and deteriorating civil rights to President Bush.
