2004 Activity Highlights

Building from a decade of experience, NAKASEC and its affiliates¡¯ civic engagement and voter empowerment program for the Korean American community in 2004 was the most ambitious and expansive.Our achievements include:

– Registering 3,750 Korean American voters and another 19,550 new voters through local coalition efforts;

– Assisting 6,500 Korean American voters;

– Co-producing bilingual Voter Bill of Rights Palm Cards with People for the American Way and distributing 14,000 copies in four states;

– Partnering with the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance to produce Korean language Voter Bill of Rights flyers in Nevada and Washington State and with the New York Immigration Coalition to produce and distribute 3,620 copies of Korean language Voting Rights Palm cards;

– Production and distribution of 70,000 copies of ¡°Vote 2004:How Our Government Works and the Electoral Process¡± guides to 11 states;

– Production and distribution of 97,000 mobilization and voter education flyers;

– Voter mobilization to 4,000 voters (phone banking, precinct walks, flyer outreach);

– Voter education to 500 voters (forums, workshops, etc.);

– Polling of 1,372 Korean Americans in four cities;

– Co-producing a comprehensive Asian Pacific Islander American (APIA) political platform; and

– Birthing new local coalitions and developing new regional and national partnerships.
