KRC with other health services, labor union, and immigrant rights groups held a press conference to voice concerns over Governor Schwarzenegger’s mid-year budget cuts.Following the press conference, participants attended a hearing held by the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services.KRC has consulted hundreds of concerned elders, pregnant women, and future recipients of Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI), Healthy Families, Medical, and CalWORKS.These would-be recipients will most likely be put on a long waiting list as many of the programs will be placed on a cap or be eliminated.Soon Bae Lee, a Korean American senior citizen, testified at the senate hearing to express her concerns on the proposed budget cuts. She is one potential applicant of CAPI who would be negatively impacted by the governor’s proposal.
