Fast for Families Campaign Calls on Colorado Members of Congress to Protect Families, Fix Broken Immigration System This Year
“Fast for Families” Leaders DJ Yoon and Rudy Lopez join Aurora Mayor, AAPI leaders, and DREAMers to Urge Colorado Members of Congress to Provide Leadership
AURORA – Local faith, labor, immigrant leaders, elected officials, and DREAMers joined national “Fast for Families” leaders Dae Joong (DJ) Yoon and Rudy Lopez (FIRM) today in urging members of the Colorado Congressional delegation to show leadership and call for a vote on immigration reform with a path to citizenship and in support of family unity this year.
“We are here to ensure that families are no longer torn apart by our broken immigration system. For the hard-working immigrants, including Asian and Latino Americans, the core value of family remains the same, said DJ Yoon. “We bring this same message to our leadership in Aurora that the suffering of family separation must end.”
Javier Gallegos Rosales (Together Colorado), who came to the U.S. when he was nine years old with his 11 brothers and sisters, is one individual that the Colorado community is trying to protect from family separation. If it were not for a traffic violation, Javier would be eligible for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) but is now fighting deportation proceedings. Javier desires nothing more than to contribute to our country and to continue to support his family, his community and himself. He hopes to one day become a graphic designer.
JR Kuo (National Asian American Pacific Islander Mental Health Association) reminded Aurora that immigration is an American issue, not only a Latino issue and said, “All immigrants, including Asian American & Pacific Islanders, deserve to be happy and have a peace of mind. Family separation does just the opposite.”
Steve Hogan, the Republican Mayor of Aurora, addressed how outdated polices negatively affect our families, our cities, our economy and our country. Mayor Hogan called upon all members of the Colorado Congressional delegation to do everything in their power to bring reform to a vote in the United States House of Representatives in 2014.
“Fast for Families Across America” is continuing into Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Fast for Families is being hosted in Aurora by Colorado groups including Mi Familia Vota, Rights for All People, Together Colorado, Colorado 9 to 5, SEIU Local 105, Centro Humanitario and the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition. 캠페인 소개:
2014 년 1 월 27 일, “이민자 가족을 위한 금식 캠페인 전국 버스 투어(이하 버스 투어)”는 전국 100 여 개 이상의 의원 선거구를 방문하는 2 단계 계획을 발표했다. 한 달 동안 25 명의 주요한 연방 의원 지역구 내에서 다양한 행사와 의원 방문이 진행 되었다. 2014 년 2 월 24 일 로스앤젤레스에서 “전국 버스 투어” 가 출범 되어 한 버스는 북쪽 지역으로, 또 다른 버스는 남쪽 지역을 투어 하게 된다. 북쪽 버스에는 장기 금식자 윤대중 (미교협)과 루디 로페즈 (공정한이민개혁연합)가 탑승하고, 남쪽 버스에는 장기 금식자 엘리세오 메디나 (서비스업 국제노조)과 크리스티앙 아빌라 (미파밀리아 보타)가 탑승하게 된다. 두 버스는 전국 75 개 이상의 연방 하원 선거구를 방문하여 지역 사회 주민들과 이민 개혁에 대한 의지를 재 확인 하며, 지역구 하원 의원들의 사무실을 방문 하여 이민 개혁 제정을 촉구한다. 두 버스는 4 월 9 일 경 워싱턴 디씨에 도착 할 예정이며 기자회견과 다양한 행사를 디씨에서 갖을 것이다.
“이민자 가족을 위한 금식 캠페인”은 지난해 11 월 엘리세오 메디나 (서비스업 국제노조), 윤대중 (미교협), 루디 로페즈 (공정한 이민개혁 운동) 그리고 크리스티앙 아빌라 (미 파밀리아 보타)가 22 일 동안 내셔널 몰 국회의사당 앞으서 모든 음식을 끊고 물만 마시는 금식을 진행함으로써 이민 개혁에 대한 논의를 쟁점화한 바 있다. 이 캠페인은 즉각적이고 인도적인 이민개혁을 위한 의원들의 참여를 호소하였다.
