HANA Action sent a Candidate’s Survey with 9 questions to both of the Democratic candidates for the IL Congressional 40th District. We are sharing the answers from the candidates who responded to the survey.

1. What experience will you bring that has prepared you to be a strong Illinois state house representative?
2. Do you have a connection to the Asian American community in the 40th District? If so, can you share about that connection?
3. What will be your number one priority if (re)elected?
4. Life is becoming more and more unaffordable- rising grocery prices, utility bills, housing costs and more. What would you do to support people in your district who are struggling to make ends meet?
5. How would you ensure the state of Illinois can fund healthcare access for all, regardless of immigration status?
6. What do you see as the major needs of the immigrant community in the 40th district? How will you address these needs?
7. Inclusion of Asian American history is now mandated in Illinois Public Schools, but implementation has been haphazard at best. What will you do to ensure Asian American and all people’s histories are well integrated and standardized into our public schools curriculum?
8. If ICE agents were to come to District 40 in force, how would you respond? Do you support abolishing ICE?
9. What legislation would you propose to address public safety issues in the district?
